What Scam IT Does
Scam IT checks pasted messages for scam warning signs. Paste an email, invoice, letter, job offer, marketplace message, or suspicious text, set a little context, and press Scam IT. The tool scans the text against a set of known scam patterns — urgency language, unusual payment requests, phishing phrases, suspicious links — and returns a risk score from 0 to 100% with a plain-language breakdown of what it found.
It runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
When To Use It
Use Scam IT when a message feels off and you want a second opinion before acting. Common situations:
- An invoice or payment request arrived unexpectedly or from an unfamiliar sender
- An email is asking you to verify your account, reset a password, or confirm personal details
- A job offer mentions equipment checks, training fees, or requests off-platform communication
- A marketplace buyer is offering to overpay, send a courier, or pay by an unusual method
- A text or voicemail claims your account is suspended, you owe a fee, or legal action is pending
- Any message where money, account access, or sensitive information is involved and something feels wrong
Typical Workflow
- Paste the full message text into the input box.
- Set the Message Type — email, invoice, job, or marketplace — to enable pattern rules specific to that category.
- Check any context boxes that apply: money involved, account or identity involved, unknown sender, attachment present.
- Press Scam IT to run the check.
- Review the risk score and the list of reasons. Each reason explains what was found and why it matters.
- Press Download IT to save a plain-text warning report if you need to share or document the result.
Understanding The Score
The score reflects how many warning patterns were found and how serious they are. Use it as a starting point, not a final verdict.
| Low · 0–24% | Few or no warning signs found. Still verify if money, accounts, or legal threats are involved. |
| Caution · 25–49% | Some warning signs present. Follow up through a trusted channel before acting. |
| Possible scam · 50–74% | Multiple warning signs. Pause and verify using a known phone number or official website — not the message link. |
| High risk · 75–100% | Do not click, pay, download, reply, or provide information. Verify through a trusted official source immediately. |
Common Questions
What patterns does it actually check? Urgency and deadline pressure, threats and punishment language, unusual payment methods (gift cards, crypto, wire transfers, Zelle, Cash App), invoice and payment detail changes, login and verification requests, sensitive information requests, suspicious links and risky domains, attachment warnings, and category-specific patterns for invoices, job offers, and marketplace messages.
It scored low but the message still feels wrong. Trust your instincts. The tool only catches patterns it knows about. A well-crafted message from a compromised trusted account may score low. If anything about the situation feels off — especially when money or account access is involved — verify through a separate trusted channel regardless of the score.
How do I verify safely? Do not use any phone number, link, or email address from inside the suspicious message. Go directly to the official website, use the official app, or call a number you already have on file. For invoices, contact the sender through a previously established channel to confirm any payment detail changes before sending anything.
What does the downloaded report contain? A plain-text file with the score, risk level, recommended action, full reasons list, and any links or suspicious domains detected. Useful for documenting the situation or sharing with someone helping you investigate.
